The GPAD G10 7” Android Tablet that I promised a couple of weeks ago has arrived from China-based PandaWill.com. It arrived today.

Full spec details on the GPAD G10 can be found on the PandaWill.com website here. It sells for $177.99 which includes International Air Mail shipping to the US.

What follows in this posting is my unboxing report. After I use and get comfortable with the device, I’ll post my full review in a few days.

Budget priced Android tablet coming for review

KMart began advertising the Augen GENTOUCH just over a week ago for a sale price of $149.99 (regularly $169.99). The Augen GENTOUCH is a 7 inch, resistive touch, Android tablet. Unfortunately, KMart did not get very many of these devices to sell. In fact, some KMart stores have yet to receive their first units.

As best as I have been able to determine, the Augen GENTOUCH is manufactured by China-based Chitec the same company that manufactures the X10 MID that I reviewed a few weeks ago.

My contact at PandaWill.com has just let me know about a new Android 2.1 device that they will be selling, the Gpad G10, which apparently competes favorably with Augen GENTOUCH. While the Gpad G10 is priced comparably (at $184.99 with shipping) the Gpad G10 includes a camera, 3D acceleration, multi-touch, a G-sensor and 3G capability.

Keep your eyes open for my unboxing and review after the device arrives.

X10 MID Windows CE Tablet Unboxing

Last month, late May 2010, Engadget.com had a posting about a 7 inch Windows CE v.6 tablet called the X10 MID priced at a mere $179.99. Having owned and used a Windows CE webpad (a Viewsonic Viewpad 100) several years ago, the Engadget.com posting piqued by interest and curiosity. I put my internet research skills (Google & Bing searching) to work and quickly learned that the device is being sold by China-based PandaWill.com.

Full spec details on the X10 MID can be found on the PandaWill.com website here. The unit no longer ships with a camera and is now in black rather than white as indicated there.

Today, an X10 MID arrived via DHL for me to review. What follows in this posting is my unboxing report. After I use and get comfortable with the device, I’ll post my full review in a few days.

eReader price war

Amazon.com has just announced a reactive price reduction on the Kindle in response to Barnes & Noble’s earlier announced price reduction on the Nook. The Kindle is now available for $189.00 and free two day shipping.

Earlier today, B&N announced that the original Nook with 3G data was lowered to $199.00 while a WiFi only device was announced for $149.00.

Some are saying all this is in response to the success of the iPad. hmmm….

How I cured iPad fever

I simply couldn’t stand myself for not buying an iPad yesterday, so here’s what I did:

I bought an HP TouchSmart tm2t Notebook PC (Intel (1.30GHz Core2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 500GB drive and discrete ATI graphics). I loaded it up at HPShopping.com and the total tab came to $1,414.98 (with free shipping plus sales tax). However I found a $450 off coupon and got another 10% off with Bing Cashback. My net cost was 868.48 (plus sales tax)! Yep, it’s heavier than an iPad, but it has so much more capability!

It will be a couple of weeks before I get the unit, so keep an eye open for my review. If you want to consider doing the same, start by looking here. I then added to the recommended configuration:

an external BluRay drive
fingerprint reader
Bluetooth
an extra battery for 50% off

Getting used to the Nokia n900 Tablet

I have now used the Nokia n900 as my primary device for about six weeks. I figured it’s about time for me to post what I’ve been doing with it. I will not attempt an exhaustive review for MobilitySite.com as "Chris H" has already done a Nokia N900- Hands-On and is doing the official review for MobilitySite.com.

I’ve decided to take a different approach. Forget about the specs, software, first impressions, etc. Rather, I will focus on what I’ve done with the n900. I will report what works well and what doesn’t as well, all from the perspective of a committed Windows Mobile user for much of the last decade. Since I’m also a T-Mobile customer, I’ll share my experiences with the device on a 3G network.

As has been written elsewhere, I absolutely agree that:

the n900 has the absolute best browser ever available on any handheld device. Yes, it is that good!
the n900 is not for everyone. It is a device for “tweakers” and has enormous potential.

Adesso CyberPad Digital Notepad unboxing

While at CES 2010 I dropped by the Adesso booth. During my tour of the booth and with all the tablet fascination at CES, the “Adesso CyberPad Digital Notepad” caught my eye. The CyberPad is an electronic tablet upon which a standard 8-1/2” X 11” paper pad rests. When the CyberPad pen/stylus is used to write or draw on the paper pad, the CyberPad captures what is written or drawn and electronically stores that information on the device. Later, the device can be connected to a PC and what has been captured can then be stored and/or distributed in typical PC fashion.
