Like other touch-enabled Tablet PCs already available from Dell and Lenovo, the EliteBook 2740p with both a pen digitizer and a capacitive multi-touch digitizer allows both input and navigation from a keyboard, a pen/stylus and/or fingers. After reading the specs it appears that the entry model does not include the capacitive multi-touch digitizer.

Preinstalled with Windows 7 Professional but with support for Windows XP Tablet Edition and Vista Business.

The WXGA (1280 x 800) screen is 12.1 inch LED with an option for a less reflective and higher contrast outdoor-view display.

The battery is 6 cell lithium ion prismatic that provides up to 5 hours of use, but there is an option for a supplemental battery that provides up to 11 hours of use when used in conjunction with the standard battery.

Multiple Intel Core i5 and i7 processor options are available in standard voltage for performance and low voltage for “increased flexibility.”

The device is scheduled to be available in April and have a starting price of $1,599. Looks like it’s time to consider buying an HP TouchSmart tm2t as it’s now on sale starting at $849.99.

HP also made other laptop announcements:

“PALO ALTO, Calif., March 1, 2010 – HP today introduced the company’s first multi touch-enabled tablet for business users as well as notebook PCs tailored for both enterprise and small and midsize businesses (SMBs).
Additions to the new HP notebook portfolio include:

Current tablets mostly operate on low voltage Atom or Intel Centrino chips, but it looks like NVIDIA will be targeting the growing tablet market with its Tegra chip. The Tegra chipset offers powerful computing functionality and good graphics performance and has been used on the Zune HD.

The company showed off a prototype tablet, which reviewers note used a resistive touchscreen rather than the capacitive touchscreen, though Android tablets would make use of the latter technology. The tablet was running Windows CE and the mention of Android makes us speculate that Tegra-powered tablets may not be suitable for a full Windows experience and may be made for smaller, more embedded operating systems like Windows CE, Windows Mobile, or Android.

The device would be anticipated for T-Mobile in the first half of 2010.

Sure, you won’t get the full multitouch (as Android doesn’t seem to support that natively, at least not in the US) and no pen-enabled computing, but you do get quite an advanced smartphone platform that will serve double duty as a a mobile internet device and will allow you to surf the Internet and do some basic computing functions.

A firm release date isn’t still disclosed, but the online retailer is listing the device for $549. The German site of the online e-tailer is listing the device as shipping in 2-3 weeks.

Specs-wise, the device comes with an Intel Atom processor clocking in at 1.33 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 32 GB SSD drive, and a 5-hour rated non-removable battery with a convertible design that can support multitouch and gestures. WiFi, Bluetooth, and a number of ports round out this portable, low-cost tablet solution.

The design is rugged and uses the same screen as its business-class XT2 cousin. This hummer of a tablet weighs in at only 5.5 pounds, which isn’t bad for everything that it has going for it–and against it for the matter like your glass of spilled coffee.

For additional details, and to order this rugged tablet–which starts at $3500 by the way–you can visit Dell.

In 2010, you can grab your Samsung UMPC, push the power button, and it will boot up and be ready for use in a literally a few seconds. The instant-on technology would definitely be a huge boost to the tablet market when people really need their tablets right away in a moment’s notice to jot a quick note or glance at that quick email. The technology will probably be useful for those who may want to use their tablets as an ebook reader.

The Hyperspace technology for instant-on is developed by Phoenix Technologies, known for its BIOS works, and would work on the Linux partition of a dual-booting Windows machine. On the Linux portion, you’d have access to programs, emails, and wireless. Using Hyperspace, according to Phoenix, would help users save on battery and gain time between recharges.

In addition to adding Hyperspace technology to its UMPC lineup, which includes devices like the Q1 series, Samsung is looking to expand that to its mobile computing platform, which may include netbooks.

Rather than the traditional convertible form factor of the Lenovo X200 tablet that we recently examined, the eviGroup Tablet comes in a slate form factor with a 10.2-inch 1024 X 600 resistive touchscreen display. The device also packs in its own user interface overlay called Seline. Other amenities include WiFi, 3G, 1.6 GHz Atom processor, 1 GB RAM, and a 160 GB hard drive. Specs of the device closely resemble modern netbooks.

The slate from MID also has a smaller 5-inch Android cousin, which looks more like a squarish iPhone. Both devices are shown in the picture.

Dell’s MID actually runs Android, has a WVGA display at 800 X 480 resolution, and comes with WiFi and 3G for net browsing. The device also can serve as a decent cameraphone with its 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flashes.

It should be noted that the device has been marked as a US variant, meaning that it should theoretically support US 3G bands–perhaps on AT&T or T-Mobile USA.
